Gaylord E. Kautz, age 83, of Oronoco, died on Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Reverends John Torris Lohre and Kip Groettum officiating. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery with military honors provided by the combined squads of Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island and Swanson-Owens VFW Post #9647 of Oronoco. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from
4:00 ? 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gaylord Earl Kautz was born on May 18, 1924 in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Otto and Mabel (nee Stark) Kautz. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He farmed with his father until entering the U.S. Army on December 11, 1944. He served in Okinawa during World War II and while home on leave he married Doris M. Markham on January 19, 1946 in Rochester. After his honorable discharge on January 9, 1947 they returned to the Pine Island area. In 1959 they moved to Oronoco. Gaylord farmed and did construction work for many years. He sold seed corn for over twenty five years and for the last nineteen years has sold Christmas trees. Gaylord was a member of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island for forty years and also a member of the Swanson-Owens VFW Post # 9647 in Oronoco. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, mowing his yard and gardening. Gaylord is survived by his wife, Doris, one daughter, Mary (Ronald) Fuller of Oronoco, three sons, Gary (Sandra) Kautz of Oronoco, Larry (Bev) Kautz of Pine Island and Barry (Deb) Kautz of Zumbro Falls, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two brothers, Daryl Kautz of Oronoco and Francis (Sue) Kautz of Ehrenberg, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Murray and Keith and one sister, Doris Andrist.
