Gary Lee Johnson

Gary Lee Johnson, 70, of Red Wing died on Monday, October 9, 2017. Gary was born on May 23, 1947, in Red Wing to Clifford and Dorothy (Martin) Johnson. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1965. He went on to attend college at St. Cloud State University where he obtained a degree in education. He moved to Montana and was a teacher at Warren Elementary School. In 1973, he moved back to Red Wing and worked at the S. B. Foot Tanning Company. He later worked as a security guard at the Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant. Gary enjoyed fishing, watching football and the Minnesota Vikings, and found the greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his brothers Corey (Diane) Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA, Mark (Pam) Johnson of Portage, WI, Steve Johnson of Red Wing, and Tim (Meg) Johnson of Tonka Bay, MN; four children, Danielle (Joe) Rice of Red Wing, Trent Johnson of Eagan, Brook (Brendan) O'Rourke of Falcon Heights, and Tait (Sarah) Johnson of Farmington; two step-daughters Jennifer (Garret) Glanville and Jill (John) Doberstein of Duluth; and his beloved grandchildren Justin, Alyssa, Paige, Gavin, Kellen, Rylan, Evelyn, Nora, Autumn, Eloise, Kaitlyn, Jaxx, and Mattie. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Bodelson Mahn Chapel. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Reverend Karl Rydholm officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
