Gary E. Claridge

Gary Edward Claridge was born on July 12, 1931 to Merrill and Miriam (Williams) Claridge in Mankato, MN. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1949 and attended Mankato State Teacher's College prior to enlisting in the US Navy and served during the Korean War. He worked for Marigold Foods/Kemps for 34 years. He married Eileen Olinger on November 12, 1955 and they lived in Mankato until 1958 when they moved to Austin, MN. They then moved to Red Wing in 1964. Gary retired from Marigold Foods/Kemps in 1989. He had a part-time vending business for many years with his best friend Jerry Kinneman.

Gary was an avid fisherman and loved fishing on the Mississippi River and went on several annual fishing trips to Canada; he also loved ice skating and playing hockey and was on the State Men's Championship Hockey Team from Mankato. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Grantsburg, WI where he hunted and snowmobiled. Gary was an accomplished musician playing the clarinet, piano, harmonica and played in the Marigold Dixieland Band in Mankato. He also enjoyed archery and bowled for Joe's Mobile for many years. Gary ran in the Red Wing Fourth of July races, enjoyed walking, and spending time with his friends and family.

Gary is survived by his wife Eileen of Red Wing; 5 children, Gayle (Willie) Miller of Red Wing, Dale (Sue) Claridge of Eden Prairie, Dennis (Ann) of Arden Hills, Diane (Corey) Aadalen of Red Wing, and David (Merri) Claridge of Red Wing; Grandchildren, Cody Miller: Emily, Rebecca, and Will Claridge: Tony, David and Henry Claridge: Erin and Amie Aadalen: and Gracelin and Madalynn Brock; and sister-in-law, Audrey Claridge of Mankato.

Gary is preceded in death by both of his parents, and his brother, Warren Claridge.

Memorial service will be on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2:30PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home , Bodelson Chapel with Jeff Lexvold officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Luncheon will follow at the American Legion.
