Gail A. Diercks

Gail Albert Diercks, 76, of Red Wing, died Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Zumbrota Care Center. He was born on May 24, 1939 in Red Wing to Albert and Esther (Vieths) Diercks. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1957 and then served in the National Guard. On April 22, 1967 he married Janelle Pansch in Odessa, Minnesota. He worked for Wedge Lumber in Goodhue and then for the Goodhue County Highway Department before retiring. After retiring he continued to work part time at Goodhue County Recycling, City of Red Wing and Industrial Hardwoods. Janelle died on November 8, 2010. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church rural Goodhue and the Goodhue Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, playing cards and most of all being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two children, Joel (Dawn) Diercks of Vermillion and Melissa (Jon) Jablonski of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Abigail, Alexa and Cole; three great grandchildren, Canaan, Keldon and Brandson; two sisters, Rita (Marvin) Jurgens of Chanhassen and Marcia Matthees of Goodhue; two brothers, John Diercks and Gary (Phyllis) Diercks all of Goodhue and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Rebecca Diercks; one brother-in-law, Raymond Matthees and two nephews, Jonathan Matthees and Brent Diercks.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Goodhue with Reverend Jim Bourman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 24 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
