Frieda B. O'Brien age 87 of Lake City passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Frieda was born July 25, 1921 in Mazeppa Township to William & Ida (Mueske) Hoeft. She graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1941. Frieda married Eugene O'Brien October 29, 1941 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. They operated the home farm place in Mount Pleasant Township until 1965 when they moved to Frontenac. She worked for Wise Ace Hardware and the Lake City Hospital while they farmed. After they moved to Frontenac she started working at JC Penny's in Red Wing, where she worked for 8 years. She also sold Avon during that time. She also worked at Pace Dairy in Rochester. In 1976 they entered the Motel 6 business. They managed the Lake City Apartments from 1978 to 1981. In 1981 they took an Apartment Management job in Sacramento, CA. In 1982 they returned to Lake City. While in Lake City for three summers they worked as custodians at the Lake Pepin Rest Area. Eugene passed away in January of 1998. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.
Survived by a son Jerry (Karen) O'Brien of Lake City; 3 daughters, Judith (Gary) Burgess of Chippewa Falls, WI, Jennie Augustine of Phoenix, AZ, Janice (Donald) Webb of Sharpsburg, GA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Arthur Hoeft and Wilfred Hoeft.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran church in Lake City with Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
