Frederick "Fritz" Lee Schulz, 74, of Goodhue, died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 4, 1940, in Red Wing, to Reinhold and Edna (Albers) Schulz and was a 1957 graduate of Goodhue High School. He enlisted in the US Army on January 23, 1958 and served until he was honorably discharged on January 22, 1960. He was also a member of the 82nd Air Borne serving one year in Korea. On September 16, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ronnelle LaFournaise at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. He worked for Schulz Transfer for a number of years and then worked in sales for the Ford dealership in Zumbrota for 28 years. After retiring, he worked part-time in Red Wing for the 1st Judicial District Court. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church serving on many boards and active in church activities; Goodhue Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones award; Bellechester American Legion Post #598; 300/500 Club for the dealership and served on the Goodhue Fire Department for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, singing, traveling, gardening, coin collecting, watching football, volunteering and above all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ronnelle; one son, Dr. Nathan (Lisa) Schulz of Lake City and their children, Connor, Gabriel and Benjamin Schulz; one daughter, Tamara Schmitz of Woodbury and her daughter, Michelle (Bobby Hall) and their children, Colten and Emma and her son, Calen Spindler; two sisters, Loraine Augustine of River Falls and Marla Tupper of Zumbrota and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elroy and Willard "Bill" Schulz; one sister, Faye Schulz and his mother-in-law, Florine LaFournaise.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue with Reverend Randall Kuznicki officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to the service.
