Frederick Edward Pirius, 77, of Red Wing, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on May 4, 1933, in Red Wing the son of Edward and Margaret (Eldred) Pirius. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1951. During high school he worked at Pirius Bakery. Following graduation he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from May 28, 1953 to May 27, 1955. After his discharge he attended St. Olaf College. He returned to Red Wing where he worked at First National Bank, Norwest Bank and Wells Fargo retiring as Assistant Vice President after 32 years of banking. He was an active and faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was treasurer, served on the church council and participated in the Risers' men's group. He was active with the Gamehaven District of Boy Scouts of America and the Goodhue County Historical Society. He enjoyed figure skating, woodworking, bird watching and hunting.
Survivors include cousins and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitaiton will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church or Goodhue County Historical Society.
