Francisco Javier Corripio, also named Frank, Francis, entered eternal life on July 20, 2020 at 63 years of age. He was born on November 6, 1956 in Havana, Cuba to Maria Teresa Soto and Justo Jose Corripio. He moved to Miami, Florida with his family at the age of 3. As a child, he was astute at math, challenging his mother, a schoolteacher, by solving algebra problems without showing all the steps. He loved South Florida and lived there throughout his youth, graduating from Christopher Columbus High School, Miami, FL in 1974, and Florida International University with a bachelor's in business administration, in 1986. He had a long career in banking, beginning as teller and advancing to Senior Vice President Chief compliance officer. He met his beloved wife Mickie in Miami in 2001, proposing on the beaches of Dominican Republic, and marrying her in 2005. She often joked he could never get rid her, especially since she was inside him, via kidney donation, completed December 2012. He moved to Rochester, MN in 2014 to be close to the Mayo Clinic to better care for his health. He was incredibly adventurous and loved to travel, his favorite place to visit was Paris, only after his beloved Cuba, which he dreamed of returning to. He enjoyed automobiles, classic cars such as the Pontiac GTO and loved driving his Hummer. He was a family man and cherished every moment with his two beautiful daughters Nikki and Tiffanie.
A devout Catholic, he frequented moments of prayer with his family. Fresh roses always sat beside the Virgin Mary in his living room and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Wisconsin was his meditative place. His disability inspired him to help others, and he took a leadership role on the Board of Directors of SEMNCIL (South East Minnesota Center for Independent Living) in City of Rochester for disabled persons 2015-2016. He never wavered in facing all his health complications, surviving 2 kidney transplants and countless treatments and hospitalizations. His resilience led to his nickname of "Superman" by his daughters, leading to his daily use of Superman socks. He would often be found joking with the nurses at Dialysis center at Mayo and always wanted to visit the nurses and providers at Mayo Clinic during times of health. He always stated his appreciation for the care he received at Mayo Clinic, stating he was "alive because of Mayo". His love for Cuban food and coffee led him to open restaurants: Francisco's Cuban Café, and later expanding to Francisco's Restaurant, with the goal of sharing the wonderful
meals and essence of Cuba with the residents of Rochester MN. Above all, he wanted to be remembered in his own words as "the best father in the world, and a fighter until the end". His legacy continues in his restaurant, in the hands of his stepdaughter and son-in law Lisette a nd Jeff James.
His spirit lives on in his wife Miguelina Corripio, his daughters Nicole Corripio and Tiffanie Corripio.
Francisco is survived by his sisters Maria Teresa "Teruca" Corripio and Gloria Maria Fonts, his stepdaughters Lisette Nunez-James, Denise Nunez, MD, MPH, and Bridgette Nunez Esq, his step-grandchildren, sons in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, caretakers, and friends throughout South Florida, and Minnesota.
He has been reunited in heaven with his parents, his beloved brother Justi, and his german shepherd, Lobo and the rest of his family and friends departed.
