Frances M. Klein

Frances Mary Klein, age 85 of Lake City, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Lake City Care Center after a long illness of Parkinson's. She was born April 29, 1927 at the home of Karl and Margarete (Mohr) Kehren in Belvidere Township, Lake City. She attended country school and Goodhue High School, graduating her senior year from the University Of Minnesota Institute Of Agriculture. On January 23, 1947 she married Leroy Klein in Lake City. Together they farmed in the Zumbro Falls area and later in the Belle Creek area until purchasing their small farm in Isle, MN. Frances had worked at the Lake City Hospital in Lake City, Nybo's Café in Red Wing, and Cannon Equipment in Cannon Falls. After making her home in the Isle area, she worked at Lindy Little Joe's Tackle Company until its closing in 1984 and then retired after 13 years at Engineered Polomer Plastics Company in Malmo, MN. Due to illness Frances moved back to the Lake City area in 2006 and became a resident of the Mayo Clinic Health System Care Center in Lake City in April 2007.
Frances enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. She had a love for animals but a special passion for horses. This was illustrated in her many drawings. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City and a longtime member of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Survivors include her eight children, Fred (Patti) Klein of Cannon Falls, JoAnn (Tom Gernentz) Schwab of Red Wing, Dale (Vikki) Klein of Sparks, NV, Jule (Dick) Majerus of Mazeppa, Lee (Dee Dee Songer) Klein of Lake City, Ethel (Butch VanderBerg) Klein of Isle, Joy Stark of Webster, WI, and Perry Klein of Ogalvie, MN; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; siblings, Margaret Nelson of Bay City, WI, Frederick (Lotte) Kehren of New Prague, Reno Kehren of Savage, Alice (Frederick) Sprick of Lake City, and Jean (Jim) Halling of Zumbrota; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Leroy Klein; six siblings, Charles Kehren, Hazel Hendel, William Kehren, Rudolph "Nick" Kehren, Victor Kehren, and Marian Schafer.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Church. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church - Building Fund, or to the Lake City Care Center.
