Florence Cathryn Schwartau, 88, Red Wing, died Sunday at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born March 8, 1919 in Red Wing, the daughter of Rudolph and Alma (Ehlen) Schwartau. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1936. She worked at J. C. Penney's, Red Wing, for 35 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Altar Guild and the Ladies' Guild and she visited the shut-ins. She enjoyed traveling, walking and photography, especially taking pictures of nature.
Survivors include her three nephews: Charles (Carol) Schwartau of Goodhue, Ronald (Connie) Schwartau of Balaton, Minn and Bruce (Deborah) Schwartau of Kasson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Schwartau.
Funeral will be 11 a. m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Casandra Veiseth, Corinne Stephens, Craig and Laura Schwartau. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church or the American Cancer Society. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
