Florence May Nelson, 97, of Bay City, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Preferred Senior Living in Ellsworth. She was born on November 5, 1920, in Ellsworth to Christian and Flora (Falkofske) Freier. She attended Ellsworth High School and graduated in 1937. She then attended River Falls State Teachers College for a rural teacher's course graduating in 1939. She taught rural schools in Pierce County for five years from 1939-1944. On October 19, 1944, she was united in marriage to Bernard (Bud) Nelson. To this union three daughters and one son were born. For three years they lived in Red Wing and then they moved to Hartland Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin where she lived until 2014. Bud died on February 8, 1989.
She liked flowers, spending much time caring for her flower beds. She enjoyed traveling, reading and was an excellent writer. She has been one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1951 and spent much time in the ministry sharing what the Bible says about God's Kingdom.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Jeff Gipford; two sisters, Olive Thoms and Adeline Palmquist and one brother, Leland Freier. She is survived by her four children, Rana (Clifton) Hughes of St. Augustine, Fla., Patricia (Alvin) Banchak of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Wendy (Robert) Sagstetter of Ellsworth and David (Lorraine) Nelson of Bay City; four grandsons, Joel Hughes, Ryan Banchak and Dieter and Johannes Lebrecht and one sister, Mabel Johnsen of Hudson along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, N4245 County Road C, Ellsworth, Wis., 54011. Mike Demuth will be presiding.
