Fern G. McCormack

Fern G. McCormack, 97, of Plum City, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Plum City Care Center. She was born November 25, 1919 to Adam and Christine (Haugen) Breckheimer in Mankato, Minnesota. On July 15, 1942 she was united in marriage to Lyle McCormack in Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota. Together, the couple raised four children on dairy farms in Rosemount and Bay City. They later retired to Red Wing. Fern worked as a teacher for 11 years in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. She was also a tutor and taught English to Laotian immigrants. She was a member of Heartland Methodist and later, First United Methodist Church in Red Wing. She was on the American Cancer Society Board in Pierce County for more than 15 years. She had many hobbies throughout her life, including, sewing, bowling, boating, fishing and gardening. She also loved to travel and made a point to take each grandchild on an individual trip catered to their interests. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her four children, Larry (Sheri) McCormack of Hager City, Wis., Judy (Dick) Schlosser of Eau Galle, Wisc., Joan (Chuck) Foley of Ellsworth, Wis. and Barb (Jim) Billmeier of Morgan, Minn; 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Nolan of Minneapolis and sister-in-law, Millie Besson of Apple Valley.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters, infant brother and her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 9th, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Wing with Rev. Clay Oglesbee officiating.
