Faythe Myrtle Hawkinson, 96, of Red Wing, died Thursday, February 25, 2016, at her home in Potter Ridge, surrounded by her family. She was born April 7, 1919, to Tom and Myrtle (Fanslow) Comstock in Featherstone Township. She grew up in the area and attended Red Wing Central High School, graduating in 1936. She then went to work for the Republican Eagle until her marriage to Howard Hawkinson on September 14, 1940, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple made their home on the family farm in Hay Creek where they raised three daughters. Faythe was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and involved in many Bible studies and church projects. She was a past president of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW), sewed quilts for Lutheran World Relief and helped to serve many meals from the church kitchen. She was an industrious homemaker known for her chicken dinners and exceptional baking skills. She enjoyed gardening and preserving the harvest, as well as knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader as well as a skilled seamstress. Faythe was also actively involved in the lives of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Faythe is survived by her three daughters, Sandra (Michael) Tobin of Owatonna, Kathleen Gronvall, Red Wing, and Gail Schlauderaff, St. Joseph; 13 grandchildren: David (Dana) Schlauderaff, Christina (Chad) Flakne, Carolyn (Jerry) Hall, Nathan (Stephani) Tobin, Erin Gronvall, Peter (Shari) Gronvall, Tamar (Girish Iyer) Gronvall, Elisabeth (Sidney) Pennix, Benjamin (Stephanie) Gronvall, Manasseh Goldberger, Huldah (Aaron Jabbour) Gronvall, Isaiah Gronvall and Dinah Gronvall; 20 great-grandchildren, Bryn, Joel and Kendall Schlauderaff; Broden and Lauren Flakne; Jordyn, Sydney, Grace, and Megan Tobin; Tony, Jacob and Madilyn Hall; Asher, Simon, and Sylvie Gronvall; Franklin and Viktor Pennix; Emily and Clara Gronvall; and Lily Jabbour; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Denzel, Frances and Lucas Pennix; her sister, Wanda Grande; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; brother, Tom Comstock, Jr.; grandson Daniel Schlauderaff and great-grandson, Isaac Tobin.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
