Faye Madeline Earney, 94, of Red Wing and formerly of Bay City, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at her home at Potter Ridge Senior Living, surrounded by her loving family. On Thanksgiving Day a beautiful baby girl named Faye was born to Samuel and Martha (Grady) Hunter at the City Hospital in Red Wing. For a couple of years her family lived in Diamond Bluff where her dad ran the Pool Hall. They moved to Hager City and in 1946 to Bay City. Faye graduated from Red Wing High School in 1947, and then entered the St. John’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1950, at the Villa Maria in Frontenac. She worked nights as a RN for 42 years delivering babies at the hospital in Red Wing. In 1954, she was united in marriage to Bob Earney and they had five wonderful children, Bonnie, Patti, Steven, Kip and Bob. In 1960, they built a house on the top of the hill in Bay City and she resided there until a year ago when she moved to Potter Ridge.
Following retirement, she volunteered at the Red Wing Food Shelf, Red Wing Correctional Facility, Faith in Action and the Church of St. Joseph. She was active with the Bay City Community, serving as president for 19 years for the Bay City Women’s Legion Auxiliary, served as an election judge, and was secretary and treasurer of the Jolly Senior Citizens.
Faye and Bob loved to travel especially with Marilyn, Faye’s sister who was married to Don, Bob’s brother. They traveled to China twice, three times to Europe, annual trips to Las Vegas and many cruises. Later on, Faye enjoyed going on casino bus trips and other bus trips, reading murder mysteries, watching the grandchildren’s sports and was an avid fan of the Bay City Bombers and Green Bay Packers.
Faye is survived by four children, Bonnie (Hunter Johnson) Olson of Hager City, Steve (Amy) Earney of Red Wing, Kip (Cathy) Earney of Red Wing and Bob (Carla) Earney of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Olson, Autumn Earney, Nick and Lindsey (Ariel) Earney, Chelsey (Will) Young, Mitch (Melissa) Earney, Brogan Earney, Angie Kizer and Kelly Clemens; 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Earney of Pepin, WI and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob in 1994; daughter Patti in 2024, and one brother, Don “Mick” Hunter.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday. Family burial will be at the Bay City Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to May Red Wing Hospice or the Church of St. Joseph. Arrangements by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
