Evelyn R. "Evy" Strande, 91, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, in Red Wing, Minnesota. She was born January 10, 1918, in Lengby, Minnesota to Frederick and Maria Wiemers. She attended Hoag School in rural Lengby and furthered her education at Crookston Agricultural College. She married Alvin G. Strande on December 24, 1938 in Fosston, Minnesota. During World War II they lived in Superior, Wisconsin. They later returned to the Fosston area until 1958 when they moved to the Twin Cities area. She worked at Central Nursing Home in Northeast Minneapolis as a Nurses Aide for 23 years. Alvin died May 2, 1985. She moved to Red Wing in 1986. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, and her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith (Sheldon) Beckstrand of Circle Pines, Susan "Sue" (Michael) Halvorson of Red Wing, and Faye (Larry) Erickson of Woodbury; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Lloyd (Gail) Wiemers of Rathdrum, Idaho, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Francis and Willie, and two great-granddaughters.
A private graveside service will be held at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Families of SMA, 925 Busse Road, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, 60007.
