Evelyn Mathilda Post

May 21, 1916 — February 2, 2017

Evelyn M. Post, age 100, of Mazeppa, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Zumbrota Health Service Center. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church - Mazeppa at 11:00 A.M with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mazeppa cemetery. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel.
Evelyn Mathilda Ehlers was born on May 21, 1916 on the family farm in Chester Township, Wabasha County to Henry C. and Bessie L. (Haas) Ehlers. As an infant she was baptized by Pastor Willis Beck of English Lutheran Church of Zumbrota. She was confirmed by Pastor W.P. Sauer on August 11, 1929 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. She grew up in the Mazeppa area and attended country school and Mazeppa High School. On September 14, 1936 she married Ervin C. Post of Zumbrota at the Bear Valley Lutheran Church. They farmed in Chester Township until 1957. Evelyn worked for Rochester State Hospital for 9 years and then Mayo Clinic for 15 years. In 1999 she sold the farm and moved to Riverview Apartments in Mazeppa. She was a member of the Millville - Zumbro Falls Senior Citizens, Mazeppa Senior Citizens and St. John's Lutheran Church. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, playing cards, bowling, puzzles, needlework, traveling and spending time with family. She traveled to every state except Rhode Island and twice to Europe.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Harvey Post of Zumbrota; granddaughter, Denise (Guy) Whipple of Mazeppa; four great-granddaughters, Rachel, Olivia, Maurria and Tahtina; sister, Lola Kish of Zumbrota; nieces, Judy Tupper, Kay Swanson, Betty Baer, Kathy Plank, Karen Kautz and Beth Steberg.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; brother, Earl Ehlers; sister, Gladys Grossbach; nephew, Gary Kish; and niece, Nancy Cullip.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of donor's choice.
