Evelyn Valeria Johanna Kiester, 94, of Red Wing, formerly of Frontenac, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at her home. She was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1921 to William and Minnie (Schriever) Hinrichs in Minneola Township. She grew up in the area and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1939. On April 24, 1943 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Kiester and the couple made their home in Milwaukee for a short time where they both worked at International Harvester Ammunition Plant during WWII. They later returned to the area, living in Frontenac where they owned and operated Cap's County Club. She also worked at Zero King in Lake City and the Frontenac Sportsman's Club. She was very interested in and supported local history and was instrumental in saving the Florence Town Hall. She also belonged to the Covered Bridge Society in Zumbrota. Evelyn was a member of St. John's, Frontenac and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing bridge and flower gardening. She also loved cats, especially Persians, and always had a special cat in her life.
She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lloyd; her parents; and seven siblings; Lavern Hinrichs, Marie Lother, Rose Fredine, Gladys Finney, Frieda Eastman, Myrtle Olson and Loretta Hinrichs.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac with Rev. Stephan Kurtzahn officiating. Burial will be at Frontenac Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to the church, Florence Town Hall or Goodhue County Humane Society.
