Evelyn Hawkins age 80 of Pine Island died on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island with Father Randall Kasal officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Monday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Evelyn Rauchenstein was born on June 19, 1931 in Concord Township, Dodge County, MN to Joseph and M. Beatrice (nee Prentiss) Rauchenstein. She spent her early years in the Old Concord area. At age 5, her family moved to Rochester. She attended and graduated from Rochester Central High School in 1949. On June 24, 1950 she married Laurence H. Hawkins in Rochester. They made their home on the Hawkins family farm in rural Pine Island. Evelyn was a homemaker and worked several different jobs. After retiring she developed her skill as an artisan working in stained glass and glass crafts, displaying and showing her crafts at various shows. Evelyn was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and enjoyed music, movies, traveling, maintaining her lawn and was an avid reader. Evelyn is survived by her children, Steven (Kathleen) Hawkins of Rochester, Teresa (Allan) Zemke of Red Wing, Laurel (David) Gorham of Big Rapids, MI, Christopher (Laurie) Hawkins of Janesville and Daniel Hawkins of Pine Island; daughter-in-law, Judy Cook of Pine Island; twelve grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Hawkins, Sean Hawkins, Kyle (Sarah) Zemke, Kelli Zemke, Ethan Gorham, Tim Gorham, Greg Hawkins, Brenna Hawkins, Derek Hawkins, Kathleen Hawkins, Erin (Brad) Keifenheim and Rachel Hawkins and one great granddaughter, Lauren Hawkins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence; parents, Joseph and Beatrice; grandson, Erik Hawkins and brothers, Donald & Wayne Rauchenstein. Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Alzheimer's Association
