Evelyn Ione Carlstrom

Evelyn Ione Carlstrom, 92, died August 31, 2016, at her home in Red Wing. She was born November 2, 1923 in EL Paso Township, Wisconsin to Melvin and Alma (Place) Haugrose.
She graduated from Ellsworth, Wisconsin, High School in 1941, and worked as a nurse's aide at St. John's Hospital until her marriage to Gilbert Carlstrom on October 7, 1942 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pierce County, Wisconsin. They farmed in Belle Creek, Minnesota for nine years. In 1951, they moved to Red Wing where they raised their family. Evelyn worked at Daley's and Red Wing Health Care Centers as a nursing assistant for many years. Then she and Gilbert were custodians at First Methodist Church for a number of years. After that she coordinated many bus trips for local senior citizens. In her later years she resided at St. Brigid's Assisted Living in Red Wing until her death.She was active in the First Lutheran Ladies Aid for many years and she enjoyed needlework, playing cards and making greeting cards.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a granddaughter. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Monte) Lienau of Walker and Geraldine (Wayne) Rustad of Austin, Minnesota. Also surviving are her sons Gene of Long Lake, Rodney of Walker, and Bruce (Elizabeth) of Lake City. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and her brother Lars Haugrose (Bernice) of Red Wing. She will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday September 7 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Arte Sharot officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday September 6 from 5-7 p. m. at Bodelson-Mahn Funeral Home in Red Wing and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to First Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
