A celebration of life for Evangeline Ruth Felicia Lemmerhirt will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Clark Cary officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Lemmerhirt 101 formerly of Red Wing died on Sunday, January 03, 2010 at the Zumbrota Health Care Center.
Evangeline Elstad, daughter of Olaf and Ruth Poe Elstad was born at her parents farm home in Warsaw Township in Goodhue County on December 6, 1908. Evangeline was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church in rural Kenyon. She was educated in the Dennison, Northfield and Kenyon Schools, graduating from Kenyon High School in 1926. Following high school she attended Minneapolis Bible College for a year. She married Peter Leuthe; he died in 1961. She was employed as a nurses aide at several rest homes in Red Wing for many years. In 1970 she married Walter Lemmerhirt. He passed away in 1979. She moved to the Jordan Towers where she was active in her Dorcas Bible Study group, enjoyed cooking, her cat, reading, music and visiting with friends. Evangeline was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing.
Evangeline is lovingly survived by one daughter, Sharon (Curt) Thoreson of Wanamingo; three granddaughters, Lisa (Todd) Copper, Krissa Thoreson and Holly (Christopher) Sessions; two great grandsons, Luke Cooper and Cole Sessions; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and three brothers, Clifton, Canton and Fulton.
Honorary bearers are her three granddaughters.
The family prefers memorials to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
