Eugene Arthur Swygman "Swig"

ROCHESTER - Eugene A. "Swig" Swygman, age 85, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the Stewartville Care Center. Swig was born Apr. 8, 1930 in Rochester to Christian and Cora (Beise) Swygman. He was raised in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1948 where he lettered in baseball and hockey. He worked at Knowltons Department Store part time as a meat cutter during high school. Swig attended Rochester Junior College before serving in the U.S. Army for two years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Donna Lee Moore on Sept. 9, 1951 in Rochester. Swig worked for Super Value Foods in Rochester before becoming a part owner of Jack's IGA until 1983, when he sold his share.
He then worked in the maintenance department at Holiday Inn South, and JC Penny before retiring. He was a member of PFLAG, Parents, Families, and Friends, of Lesbians and Gays, card club, and enjoyed golfing, and family activities including watching his grandchildren's sports activities.

Survivors include his daughter, Teri (Larry) Hall of Rochester; two sons, Scott (Kathy) of Rochester; and Craig of Minneapolis, grandchildren, Amber (Nathan) Blanchard, Kelly (Troy) Zakariasen, Crystal (Peter) Lawton, Carolyn (Brandon) Crane, Shannon Swygman, and Jason (Kendra) Swygman, sixteen great grandchildren, his sister Janette Ostendorf of Minneapolis, sister-in-law, Eleanor Moore of Rochester, and special family friends, Terry Erickson of Minneapolis, and Janie Holmes of Rochester. His wife Donna, who died Jan. 4, 2015, and his parents preceded him in death.
A celebration of Swig's life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. Friends may join the family during "Happy Hour" from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, and one hour before the celebration on Monday. A reception will be held following the celebration. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion.
