Eugene Smith
Eugene Haga Smith, 84, of Red Wing, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 at his home. He was born April 23, 1923 in Red Wing to Walter and Mathilda (Haga) Smith and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1943. He attended Red Wing Vocational School for carpentry. He joined the US Navy in 1943 under the Construction Battalion, serving in the Pacific Area until he was honorably discharged in 1945. On December 21, 1946, he married Joanna Olson in Red Wing at United Lutheran Church. He owned and operated E.H. Smith Construction until his retirement. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, serving on its council; the Y's Men Club; Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54; Mississippi National Golf Links; and had been a volunteer fireman for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna; three children, Judy (Dana) Smith of Oakton, VA, Doug (Cyndi) Smith of Red Wing and Carol (Sam) Cameron of Hudson, Wisc.; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandsons; one brother, Walter (Ruth) Smith of Red Wing and one sister, DeLoris (Bob) Tubbesing of Red Wing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Smith.
A private graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
