Eugene Mickelson

Eugene Mickelson, 85, Red Wing, died Friday, January 21, 2011, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born July 26, 1925 in St. Paul, MN, the son of Hans and Irene (Noll) Mickelson. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, Red Wing High School and then served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Following his discharge he married Phyllis Munson on January 18, 1947 and they later divorced. On September 7, 1996 he married Carol Flemke. He worked for MN Department of Transportation for many years. He was a member of the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post #1218, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and the Red Men Club, and he served on the Wells Creek Cemetery Board.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; four sons: Steven and David (Donna) of Spring Hill, FL, Randall (Judi) of Red Wing and Jon (Sue) of Clarks Grove, MN; one daughter, Catherine (Ron) Goggin of Red Wing; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Chaplain Dar Reeck officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p. m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 with a 4 p.m. Legion prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the New Beginnings Family Service.
