Ethel H. M. Bollum, 83, of Goodhue, died Monday at her home. She was born June 21, 1923 in Belvidere Township, Goodhue County, the daughter of Lawrence & Frieda (Hoeft) Brinkman. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church and parochial school in Belvidere. She graduated from Goodhue High School in 1942. On December 31, 1944 she married Orlyn Bollum at St. Peter's. They farmed in rural Goodhue County. She worked for over 30 years sewing for Red Wing Cleaners and Launderers. Orlyn died August 22, 2002. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in her church circle. She was a 4-H leader, a member of Belva-dears Homemakers' Group and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed music, traveling, sewing, knitting, playing cards and being with her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Leon and Robert Bollum, both of Goodhue; one daughter, Suzanne (Darrell) Klevan of Goodhue; two grandsons, John and Thomas Klevan, both of Goodhue; one granddaughter, Kathryn (Brent) Hadler of Wanamingo; one brother, Vernon (Florence) Gerken and two sisters, Verdell Yotter and Phyllis Thomforde all of Lake City and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlyn; two brothers, Lester Gerken and Delmar Brinkman and one sister, Eva Yotter.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Clark Cary officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p. m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to United Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or donor's choice.
