Esther Genevive Skillestad, 94, of Wanamingo, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born on May 15, 1917, in Goodhue County, to Anna (Oseland) and David Wicksell. She married Claremont Skillestad on June 19, 1940, in Kenyon. The couple owned and operated the Bombay Store from 1967-1991. She also worked as a school teacher at local country schools around the area. Claremont died October 21, 1994. Esther lived at Heritage Hill for 12 years. She was a member of Holden Lutheran Church, ladies aid, and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crafts, cooking especially Norwegian baked goods, visiting, and gardening.
Esther is survived by her son, Larry (Sue) Skillestad of Rochester, one grandson, Sam (Nicole) Mosher of Jordan, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Mosher of Rochester, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claremont; one daughter, Kay Mosher; one sister, Doris Hinderaker; and two brothers, David and Arnold Wicksell.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Holden Lutheran Church with Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery and the visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
