ROCHESTER - Esther Schultz, 100, of Rochester, died Wednesday (May 18, 2011) at Samaritan Bethany on Eighth where she has resided for the last ten years.
Esther Mina Amanda Schultz was born Nov. 23, 1910 in Sargeant, MN to Arend and Mary (Barwig) Arends. She was raised in Plainview, MN on the family farm. On June 12, 1929 she married Henry Schwartz in Plainview. The couple moved to Haverhill Township, Olmsted County, MN where they farmed until 1945 when they moved to Rochester. The couple both worked for Libby's and operated a boarding house. They were later divorced. On Jan. 6, 1962 she married Lowell Schultz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple both worked at Libby's until their retirement, when they wintered in Arizona. Lowell died in 2002. Esther enjoyed many different crafts including sewing, knitting, and crocheting things for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Cyril) Delaney, and Janet (James) Sheldon, both of Rochester; three sons, Dale (Darlene) Schwartz, and Dennis Schwartz, both of Rochester; and David (Paulette) Schwartz of Detroit Lakes, MN; thirty grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elaine, and Donna, three sisters, and five brothers.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel with Jane Day of Homestead United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service and a reception will be held following the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery
