Esther M. Johnson age 71 of Zumbrota died early Sunday morning, February 15, 2009 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue with Reverend Mike Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Goodhue. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Esther Mae Rammelsberg was born on May 14, 1937 in Benton County, IA to Cecil and Esther (nee Thomas) Rammelsberg. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1954 she graduated form Newhall High School. Esther worked for Interstate Power in Chatfield and Northwest Airlines. On October 4, 1958 she married Charles E. Johnson in Vinton, IA. They farmed the Johnson family farm in rural Goodhue until 1991. After they sold the farm they moved to Zumbrota. Esther enjoyed vegetable gardening, refinishing and woodworking, needlework, fixing things, painting, reading, walking and spending time with her grandchildren. Esther was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday school treasurer and council member. She also was a member of the Zion Lutheran Cemetery board and volunteered at the Zumbrota Food Shelf. Esther is survived by her husband, Charles, three daughters, Brenda (Russ) Ehlers of Red Wing, Karen (Larry) Sorensen of Albertville and Nancy (David) Benrud of Kenyon, seven grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Bricker, Katie Ehlers, Jonathan Sorensen, Andrea Sorensen, Rachel Benrud, Sarah Benrud and Daniel Benrud, her siblings, Beulah Moloney of Vinton, IA, Fern Bauman of Eugene, OR, Kathryn Knaack of Vinton, IA, Cecil Faye (Deena) Rammelsberg of Branson, MO, Roxy Roster of Vinton, IA, Darlene (Donald) Lawler of Chicago, IL, Dale (Caryl) Rammelsberg of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Glen (Billie) Rammelsberg of Blairstown, IA. Esther was preceded in death by an infant son, her son, David, her parents Cecil and Esther and one sister, Mildred Rammelsberg. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran.
