Erwin "Butch" Jonas

**UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION**

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.  Due to COVID restrictions, no lunch will be held and masks and social distancing will be required at the service.

Erwin “Butch” Jonas, 89, of Red Wing, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021, at his home at the Benedictine Living Community.  He was born March 22, 1931, in Goodhue, to Claus and Lydia (Muhlman) Jonas.  After graduating from Goodhue High School, class of 1949, he was drafted into the US Army and served until he was honorably discharged.  He began working as a driver for Schultz Transfer from Goodhue.  He was united in marriage to Audrey Johnson on June 16, 1962, at the First Baptist Church in Red Wing.  He worked for a couple of tire dealerships before starting his 25 plus year career with the City of Red Wing as the long-standing superintendent of the city cemeteries.  Butch was a dedicated and faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, having served on the church council and the school board.  He faithfully read his Bible and devotions every day.  He was a loving father to his three children and was very proud of them.  He enjoyed fishing with his family. Butch also enjoyed spending time with his siblings, playing euchre, watching MN sports teams, tending to his flowers, feeding the birds, and watching the eagles at Colvill Park. He was blessed with the gift of gab, and his warm, friendly demeanor welcomed all he met.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Red Wing; 3 children, Anita (Terry Getting) Jonas Getting of Rochester, Bradley (Annette) Jonas of Red Wing and Steven Jonas of Owatonna; 1 granddaughter, Helena Jonas and two brothers, Duane (Marilyn) Jonas and Donald (Marcella) Jonas both of Goodhue.  He was preceded in death by six siblings; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church or School.  Arrangements are handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
