Ervin W. Oelkers

Ervin W. Oelkers, age 93, of Zumbrota, died on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Marys Campus in Rochester. He was born on November 11, 1920, in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, to Henry and Augusta (nee Brown) Oelkers. On January 16, 1921, Ervin was baptized and on May 20, 1934, he was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. He attended White Willow School north of Zumbrota and graduated in the eighth grade. Ervin worked on the family farm. On November 10, 1943, he married Ramona Johnson in Zumbrota. They purchased a portable feed mill which they locally owned and operated for twelve years. They also farmed and milked cows in Zumbrota Township. After retirement they moved to Zumbrota. Ervin was a past member of the Carpenters Union, Grace Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, and current member of Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. He enjoyed puzzles, reading, playing cards, and planting flowers.

Ervin is survived by his daughters, Una "Tootie" McFarren of Buffalo Junction, VA, and Jackie (David) Tutewohl - Schimek of Zumbrota; sons, Henry (Sandy) of Sheldon, WI, John (Robin) of Dalhart, TX; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Ervin was preceded in death by his wife Ramona who died on March 26, 2004; brothers, Melvin and Conard Oelkers; and sister, Vera Kalisiak.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Goodhue in the family plot. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
