Ervin O. Carsten, age 89, of Lake City, passed away Monday, September 23, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN. He was born in Bremen, MN to John and Mathilda (Karsten) Carsten. Ervin graduated from West Albany grade school. Ervin served his country during WWII in the US Army and was stationed in the South Pacific. He married Florabelle Brehmer on September 17, 1949 in Eyota, MN. They moved to Lake City and he worked at the Cargill-flour Mill for 36 years, retiring in 1986. His wife Florabelle passed away in 1992. He is a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City and a life member of Lake City VFW Post 8729. Ervin enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping and especially music. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
Ervin is survived by one son, Gary (Marlys) Carsten, of Spring Valley, WI; one daughter, Penny (Robert) Linder, of Lake City; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a special friend Barbara Hielsher of Rochester and her family; and his little dog, Squirty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florabelle; two sons, Wayne and Kim; two daughters, Sandra Carsten and an infant daughter, Jane; and a granddaughter Kaili Linder.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 26th, 2013 at 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with the Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in the Theilman Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church.
