Ernest C. "Ernie" Luhman age 88 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at his home in Zumbrota. Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, June 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch and Vicar Matthew Nowak officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Ernest Charles Luhman was born on May 6, 1922 in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, MN to John D. and Minnie (nee Pickett) Luhmann. Ernie grew up in the Zumbrota area and attended country school. During World War II Ernie worked at the United States Naval Yards in Bremerton, WA. After the war he returned to Zumbrota and started working for Rochester Dairy Inc. in Zumbrota. On December 4, 1948 he married Rose Lueck at Christ Lutheran Church. They made their home in Zumbrota. Rochester Dairy Inc subsequently became Associated Milk Producers Inc. Ernie worked as a lab tech, machinist and did maintenance work for AMPI for forty five years before retiring. Ernie was an avid bowler and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and playing cards. Ernie is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Joy (Thomas) Burson of Rochester, Beverly (James) Schumacher of Las Vegas, NV, Carol Lunn of Anoka and Rose Weber of Zumbrota; eight grandchildren, Abraham Burson, Sarah Burson, Alecia (Chris) Blair, Krista (Adam) Sheets, Matthew (Amie) Lunn, Stephanie Lunn, Angela Weber, and Anne Scherer; four great-grandchildren, Savannah Sheets, Riley Prahl, Samuel Bear Sheets and John Henry Thomas Lunn. Ernie was preceded in death by is parents John and Minnie, two infant daughters; three brothers, Walt, Johnny and Bobby; and five sisters, Marion Mattson, Gertrude Nagel, Elizabeth Schoenfelder, Edith Haller and Lillian Luhman. The family suggests memorials to donor's choice.
