Emery John Henn

Emery John Fred Henn, age 91, of Lake City passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Lake City Care Center.
Emery John Fred Henn was born June 9, 1922 to Richard and Irene (Wiebusch) Henn in Gilford Township, Wabasha County, MN. He was baptized on July 2, 1922 and confirmed on April 24, 1935 by Pastor Ernst Scharlemann at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lake City. He has been a lifelong member of Lincoln Church. Emery attended the Reisch School of Auctioneering in Mason City, IA and had auctioneered for over 60 years. He also auctioneered for many charity events. He married Dorothy Anding on July 24, 1977 at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church. They worked together in the auction business for a number of years. They moved to Lake City 1992. Dorothy passed away October 6, 2001. Emery entered the nursing home in July of 2010. Emery farmed, worked at Oak Center Creamery and in 1952 started a milk hauling business which he bought from Albert Hoops. In February 1953, his brother Dallas joined him in this trucking venture. His brother Edwin also became a partner when he quit farming. Then, in 1955, brother Richard Jr. joined the business. They bought the stock hauling business from their grandfather Fred Wiebusch. Emery started the canoe business in the Zumbro Valley Sportsman's Park. He was mayor in Zumbro Falls from 1963 to 1973 and from 1977 to 1980. He was a member of its fire department for 28 years. He was a charter member of the Zumbro Valley Sportsman's Club, a charter member of the Zumbro Falls Lion's Club, Lake City Lion's Club, State Auctioneering Association, Ducks Unlimited and was a firearms instructor for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Emery is survived by his brother, Dallas (Gloria) of Zumbro Falls, sisters, Lois Grobe of Pine Island, Elaine Folkert of Rochester, Jean Henn of Lake City, sister-in-law June Henn of Lake City. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Virginia (Darrell) Oelkers of Zumbro Falls, Shirley (David) Kennebeck of Lake City, Rosemary (Rod) Jeche of Rochester, Deborah (Jerry) Meyer of Ramsey, MN, daughter-in-law, Joan Anding of Zumbro Falls, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Emery was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his sisters and their husbands, Esther and Robert Pretzer, Dolores and James Beck, his brother and wife, Edwin and Lois (Zemke, Allers) Henn, brother, Richard (J.R.), brothers-in-law Harold Grobe and Stanley Folkert, stepson Moritz "Butch" Anding, nieces Susan Henn and Cindy Grobe, nephews Harold Grobe, Jr., Joseph Beck and Arlan Henn.
Funeral service will be held at Trinity Lincoln Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 4th at 11:00 am with Rev. Timothy Learman officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Pretzer, James Beck, Steven Grobe, Gordon Henn, Rome Anding, Jeff Henn and Dirk Oelkers. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Dicke, Jack Heins, Larry (Casey) Klindworth, Paul Witte, Ernest Roeber, T. J. Klindworth and Dick Beck.
