Elroy John Schulz, 78, of Red Wing, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his home. He was born September 3, 1929 in Red Wing to Reinhold and Edna (Albers) Schulz. After graduating from high school at Dr. Martin Luther School in New Ulm, he attended Winona State University and received his Bachelor's degree and then received his Master's degree in Education from Mankato State. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Helen Magnuson on December 21, 1963 in Red Wing. He taught school in Waseca and later became a Superintendant of Schools in Frost, Minnesota and also Wrenshall, Minnesota, where he retired from. He and Helen returned to Red Wing in 2004. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Red Wing; three children, Sarah (Marshall) Martin of Alexandria, Virginia, Steven (Jodi) Schulz of Albert Lea and Jim (Paula Noack) Schulz of St. Cloud; one grandson; two step-grandchildren and three siblings, Fritz (Ronelle) Schulz of Goodhue, Marla Tupper of Zumbrota and Loraine Augustine of River Falls, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Willard Schulz and one sister, Fay Schulz.
A celebration of El's life will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday in the Mississippi Room at the St. James Hotel, with remembrances at 2 p.m. A private family burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Goodhue. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
