Funeral services for Elijah Burton will be held Saturday June 14th at 11:00 AM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The Rev. Don Barlow will officiate. Mr. Burton, 57, of Rochester, died Friday June 6, 2014 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester following a lengthy illness.
Elijah Burton was born November 28, 1956 in Covington, Tennessee, the son of James and Idella Burton. Raised in Joiner, Arkansas, he was a graduate of Rivercrest High School in Wilson, Arkansas with the Class of 1974. He became a factory worker and then became a professional painter. He worked various jobs until settling in Madison, Wisconsin, where he became a lab technician at Harland-Sprague-Dawley, from which he retired. Due to declining health, he moved to Rochester eight years ago.
He enjoyed fishing, music and dancing, barbequing (particularly on the 4th of July), and being with his grandkids.
He is survived by his lifelong partner, Paulette Burton, of Rochester; four children, Audrey (Terry) White of Rochester, Anthony Johnson, Evette Johnson, and Christopher Burton, all of Madison, Wisconsin; a sister, Gloria (Charles) Wicks of Osceola, Arkansas; two brothers, Charles Henry (Charlene) Burton, and Larry (Carolyn) Ross, both of Madison, Wisconsin; 20 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him very much. Also surviving are cousins, uncles, aunts, and sisters and brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Idella Burton; two brothers, James Burton, Jr., and Edward Lee Burton; a cousin, John Graves; and an uncle, Edmund Banks.
No visitation is scheduled.
