Eleanor Charlotte Dahl, age 84, of Red Wing died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at St. Brigid?s at Hi-Park. She was born on January 7, 1923, in Featherstone Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota to Godfrey and Hildegarde (Munson) Swanson. She graduated in 1940 from Red Wing High School and attended the University of Minnesota for one year. She received her registered nursing certificate from St. John?s Hospital in 1944. She worked as a registered nurse for Hollywood (California) Presbyterian Hospital prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She served from April 10, 1945 to May 28, 1946 at Madigan General Hospital in Fort Lewis, Washington. She returned to Red Wing in 1947 and worked at the Medical Block Clinic and St. John?s Hospital. On August 18, 1951, she married John R. Dahl at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing. They lived in Hastings from 1957 to 1967 and then moved back to Red Wing. In 1983, she retired as Emergency Department Supervisor at St. John?s Hospital after they had moved to Wacouta. She then volunteered as a hospice nurse for Red Wing Hospice and as a guardian ad litem for Goodhue County. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, a bridge club and St. John?s Nursing Alumni; She received her Certified Emergency Nurse certificate from EDNA ( Emergency Department Nursing Association) for which she also served as an officer. She enjoyed golfing, cooking and bird watching. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John; four children, Sue (Bill) Swenson of Bethesda, Maryland; Barbara (Bruce) Wilson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; John (Lea) Dahl of Minneapolis; and Julie (Gib) Racioppi of San Carlos, California; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Sandy) Swanson of Naples, Florida; and one sister, Kathryn ?Kak? (Dewey ) Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Everett Swanson and one brother, Art Swanson.Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing, with Rev. Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Swenson, Bruce Wilson, John Dahl and Gib Racioppi. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Will, Charlie and Eric Swenson; Ellie, Tom and Margaret Wilson; Katherine and John Dahl and Tieg, Lauren and Andrea Racioppi; Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Hi-Park Chapel fund or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
