Elda Meta Augustine

Elda Meta Augustine, 97, of Goodhue, died on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. She was born July 20, 1913 to John and Anna (Rehder) Matthees in rural Goodhue. Her elementary education was at St. John's Christian Day School and she was a 1932 graduate of the Goodhue High School. She then attended Red Wing Teacher Training Department for one year, followed by five years of teaching in Rural School District #32 in Belvidere Township. She married Arnold Augustine at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue on June 17, 1939. She was a member of St. John's Ladies Aid and Belvidere Homemaker's Group while farming on the Augustine family farm in Belvidere. In 1973 a move was made to a new home in Goodhue. Elda enjoyed reading, crocheting and traveling, including two trips to Germany.

She is survived by two sons, John (Kathy) Augustine of Goodhue and Glenn (Jo Ellen) Augustine of Rochester; six grandchildren, Pastor J. Philipp (Kim), Nathan (Jen) and David Augustine, Christa (Abe) Zanto, Michelle (Aaron)Jaeger and Sara (fiancé, Michael Norseng) Augustine; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbert Matthees and one sister, Doris Matthees both of Red Wing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold, daughter Jean Augustine; grandson Paul Augustine; two brothers Gordon and Milton Matthees and two sisters, Gertrude Stemman and Bernice Voth.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue with Reverend Andrew Krause officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. In liue of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. John's Lutheran Church or School or the donor's choice.
