Elaine Eugenia McCleary, 79, of Red Wing, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born July 1, 1926, in Plum City, to Herbert and Rose (Gilles) Metcalf, and graduated from high school there. After graduating, she worked at the Plum City Feed Mill. On May 31, 1950, she married John McCleary at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. They farmed outside of Plum City until their retirement in 1977, after which they moved to Red Wing. She had worked at K-Mart and More-4. She enjoyed working in her flower garden; going to craft shows; walking her dog, Corky; reading; and feeding the birds that visited her feeders. She is survived by her husband, John McCleary of Red Wing; two children, Roger (Carol) McCleary of Red Wing and Sandy (Alan) Klein of Plum City; two grandchildren Douglas and Eric (Amanda) Klein and step-granddaughter, Sandi (Clint) McQuatters; two step-grandchildren, Breyer and Trace McQuatters; two sisters, Maxine (Elwood) Eccles of Plum City and LaRose (Dutch) Priess of Red Wing and one brother, Herb (Dorothy) Metcalf of Maiden Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Karen. A private family service will be held next week at St. Brigid?s at Hi-Park with Reverend Barbara von Haaren officiating. Burial at the Ono Methodist Church Cemetery in Plum City. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
