ROCHESTER The funeral for Elaine M. Grabau will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church (800 East Silver Lake Dr. N.E.) with Rev. Gregory Heidorn officiating. Entombment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Grabau, 74, of Rochester, died Wednesday (July 29, 2009) at her home from cancer.
Elaine Marie Ruesink was born June 29, 1935 on the family farm in Carimona Township, Fillmore County, MN. She was raised on the farm and graduated from Preston High School in 1953. She then worked for Home Federal Savings in Spring Valley. On Oct. 5, 1955 she married Curtis E. "Curt" Grabau at Greeleafton Reformed Church in rural Fillmore County. The couple lived in Spring Valley from 1955 to 1957 and she worked at Waters Corporation in Rochester. In 1957 Curt entered the U.S. Army and the couple lived in Germany until 1959 when they moved to Rochester. Elaine worked for the Rochester Public School System as an instructional aide from 1973 until her retirement in 1997. Curt was employed at the Mayo Clinic as a small animal Surgeon in Research for 35 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Store. The couple enjoyed camping and were members of the Hiawatha Land Ramblers, they attended many camping Rally's including the Regional Rally for 35 years. The couple wintered in the Phoenix area for 14 years. She also enjoyed fishing, reading, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, David (Jean) of Wabasha, MN; and Neal (Pamela) of Kasson, MN; and five grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, Samantha, Ashley, and Trevor. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel (1624 37 St. N.W.) and one hour prior to the service at the church.
