Elaine W. Glamm age 85 of Pine Island died on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the Pine Haven Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Rev's John Torris Lohre and Kip Groettum co-officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2009 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elaine West was born on July 20, 1923 at River Dale Farm in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, MN to Earl and Bernice (nee Closner) West. Elaine attended grades 1-7 at New Haven District #10, then attended 8th through 12th grades in Pine Island. Following graduation in 1941 she entered the Minnesota School of Business, Minneapolis for the Private Secretarial Course. Upon completion she accepted employment at Tankar Gas Company, Minneapolis. Losing a best friend in an airplane mishap, she left Minneapolis to enter the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in February of 1943. She graduated in February of 1946 and accepted employment with the Kahler Corporation working at the Worrall Hospital in downtown Rochester. On September 21, 1946 she married Robert Glamm, who rented the Leon Hayward farm north of Pine Island. They stayed four years and then bought a dairy farm in Pumpkin Hollow, Dodge County near Pine Island. They lived there until 1991 when they moved into Pine Island. Robert died of emphysema in June of 1991. Elaine was an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting, gardening, singing with the Pine Ears and volunteering at the Pine Haven Care Center. Elaine is survived by three sons: Carl Glamm of Kulm, ND; Paul (Vernice) Glamm of LaCrosse, WI, and Kenneth (Charlotte) Glamm of Prescott, WI; one daughter, Donna (Norman) Nielsen of Pine Island, seven grandchildren: Robert (Dawn) Glamm, Eric (Sarah) Glamm, Michael (Falynn) Glamm, Deborah (Joel) Knox, Rebekah Nielsen, Lisa (Kevin) Holtan and Matthew Glamm and eight great-grandchildren. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Robert, two sisters and three brothers. The family suggests memorials to Saint Paul Lutheran Church or the Pine Haven Care Center.
