Elaine Eleanor Froyum

Elaine E. Froyum, age 75, of Wanamingo, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1937, in Red Wing, to Paul and Mabel (Stehr) Cordes. She graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1955 and from Methodist - Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in 1958. On April 25, 1959 Elaine married Gunder Froyum at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years at the Methodist Hospital, Zumbrota Community Hospital, Dr. Walter's office, and Olmsted Medical Center until she retired in 1999.
Elaine was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo for over 50 years. She participated in the Red Hatters, Bridge, and Card Club with friends. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers and roses, bird watching, baking chocolate chip cookies, early morning walks with friends, and the yearly family vacation to the lake in Alexandria. Most of all, Elaine loved being with her family and especially cherished time with her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Gunder; sons, David (Kim) of Wanamingo, Bill (Cathy) of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Bruce (Karen) of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Bradley, Katlyn, Carly, Joshua, Nicholas, Hunter and Hannah; sister, Audrey Cordes of Zumbrota; brothers, Lloyd (Avis) Cordes of Wanamingo, and Robert (Audrey) Cordes of Montgomery, Alabama; step- sisters, Ruby (Willis) Miller of Blooming Prairie, and Harriet Jackson of Welch; step-brothers, Duane (Dorothy) Thompson of Zumbrota, and LeRoy (Vicki) Thompson of Eden Prairie; several nieces and nephews.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Pearlner Thompson.
Memorial service will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Private family burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, May, 28, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel, in Zumbrota, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
