Edna Mae Denny of Pine Island passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Golden Living Center - East in Rochester at the age of 82. The funeral will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 4:00 P.M at United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Carolyn Westlake officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel.
Edna Mae Hill was born on May 8, 1934 to Ray O. and Florence G. Hill in Little Fork, Minnesota. She was raised in Little Fork, until her father died suddenly. At age 14, she became a foster child of Frank and Emma Gilbert of International Falls. Edna lived with the Gilberts until she graduated from the International Falls High School where she was an Honor Student and captain of the softball team.
She married the love of her life, Willis W. Denny, on May 9, 1955. They moved to the Pine Island area and set up a hobby farm where Edna tended to the home and Willis worked for IBM.
Edna loved raising food for the family; she also sold flowers from her garden and trained her ponies. She loved hunting (usually alone or with her brother, Al Hill from International Falls), fishing, crafts, and playing drums in their band, "Bill Denny and the Warriors".
Willis and Edna both retired in the 1980s. The pair enjoyed traveling together, gardening, fishing, socializing, flea markets, and grandparenting. Willis passed in 2006 and Edna continued to live on their farm until 2015.
Edna is survived by her son, Frank Thomas Denny of Hammond; daughter, Sonja Lee Salcido (aka Wanda Denny Martens) of Benson, AZ; ten grandchildren; one great-grand daughter, brothers, Al Hill and Gordon Hill; and sister, Arlis Tealander.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; sister, Violet Amiot; brother, Basil (Bake) Hill; and her parents.
