Edith Schafer, 93, a lifelong Bellechester area resident, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 in Mesa, Arizona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. at the church on Friday, December 28, 2007 with a rosary recitation by the St. Mary's CCW at 6:30 p.m. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Edith Barbara Majerus was born July 22, 1914 in Bellechester, Minnesota, the ninth of twelve children of John B. and Agnes (Befort) Majerus. Edith married Howard Schafer on October 19, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. The couple spent the majority of their married life in Bellechester, with a few early years in Stillwater, Minnesota while Howard worked at the GTA Elevator. Howard passed away February 2, 1985. Edith was involved in her local parish of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the CCW and the local Senior Citizen's Club of Bellechester. Her many hobbies included reading, fishing, baking cookies and other desserts and spending time with family and friends. Edith also greatly enjoyed her trips to Arizona every winter as it allowed her to spend time with family and friends in that area.

Edith is survived by seven children, Sandy Schafer (Gerry Hauer), Cindy (Mike) Little, Wayne (Wanda) Schafer, Guy (Ted) Schafer, Alan (Tricia) Schafer, Jeff Schafer (Mark Destree) and Howie (Julie) Schafer; ten grandchildren, Becky (Ross) Lind, Robin, Carrie and Andy (Carrie) Schafer, Chelsie and Jessie Schafer, Cody, Samantha, Logan and Isabel Schafer. She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers and five sisters.

The family suggests memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester.

Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
