Earl Edwin Rootes

Earl Edwin Rootes, 86, of Red Wing, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born on May 14, 1927 in Brevort, Michigan to Charles and Gladys (Lewis) Rootes. He attended schools in Brevort and then served in the US Navy during World War II. Following his discharge he served with the National Guard and was called up during the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army. On September 11, 1954 he married Dolores Koski in Superior, Wisconsin. He worked at M.A. Hanna Mining in Hibbing, Minnesota retiring after 41 years. They moved to Red Wing in 1989. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he and Dolores were custodians for many years. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, reading, doing picture puzzles and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dolores; three sons, Earl "Corky" (Susie) of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Jeff (Debbie) of Circle Pines, Minn and Brad (Kim) of Bugle, Cornwell United Kingdom; one daughter, Brenda (Jeff) Hendrix of Zumbrota; 13 grandchildren, Brianne (Justin) Hall, Kevin, Ashley, Evan, Steven, Jenny, Gary, Jason (Stacey), Jeremy, Olivia, Emily, Lauren and Jami; one great granddaughter, Brooklyn; daughter-in-law, Denise Rootes of New York City and one sister, Beatrice Grobove of Bovey, Minn along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; one daughter, Dawn Marie; one son David and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn May King.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Rev. Dr. David Reiter officiating. Visitaiton will be for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the church or Mayo Red Wing Hospice.
