Earl Walter Nardinger

Earl Walter Nardinger, 70, of Red Wing, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1940, in Red Wing to John and Caroline (Zorn) Nardinger. Earl grew up on the family farm in rural Bellechester. He moved to Faribault, where he participated in the Special Olympics, and later moved to REM in Red Wing. He worked at Opportunity Services including Treasure Island, Big Ben, Econo Foods in the bakery department, and cleaning at a hotel, which he did up until the time of his death. Earl enjoyed doing puzzles, country music and watching Lawrence Welk. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings; he also performed as the mascot for the Lake City Volleyball team and bowled with Community Education. He was known for always having the remote control in his hands.

He is survived by two brothers, Kenneth (Doris) Nardinger of Byron and Keith (Gwendolyn) Nardinger of Red Wing; three sisters, Janice (James) Etter of Plymouth, Phyllis (Frank) Otis of Blaine and Carol Jean (Owen) Kirkebon of Blooming Prairie; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family at REM and Opportunity Services, and special friend, Amy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Bruce Peterson presiding. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellechester. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service at the church. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
