Edith Mae Otterness age 88 of rural Goodhue died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Urland Lutheran Church with Reverend Dean Lundgren officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Edith Mae Hildreth was born on October 2, 1922 in Cass Lake, MN to Scott and Hendrine (Windom) Hildreth. Her family lived in several towns before settling in Henning. Mae graduated from Henning High School in 1940. She moved to Minneapolis and started working for Honeywell. While working at Honeywell Mae attended evening classes at the Minneapolis Art School. On August 29, 1953 she married Edward Otterness and they made their home on the Otterness family farm in Belle Creek Township, Goodhue County, MN. They lived on the family farm until 1990 when they moved into Zumbrota and for the past ten years, Mae has resided at the Zumbrota Health Services. Edward died on January 20, 2001. Mae was a previous member of Urland, Minneola and Sowers churches. She enjoyed drawing, painting, attending to her flowers and spending time with family. Mae is survived by her children, Rolfe (Lynne) Otterness of Goodhue, Richard Otterness of Goodhue, David (Nancy) Otterness of Red Wing, Karen (Brian) Davis of White Bear Lake, Connie Anderson of Wanamingo and Gloria (Gil) Pangburn of Lakeville; nine grandchildren, Christie Anderson, Carrie (Jarvis) Groth, Cassie Anderson, Candi (Derek) Stern, Jacob Scharpen, Laura Davis, Olivia Otterness, Allison Davis and Nicole Otterness; two great grandchildren, Layne Groth and Rylee Groth. Mae was preceded in death by her husband Edward; brothers, Wallace Hildreth, Melvin Hildreth, Harry Hildeth, Clifton Hildreth and William Hildreth; and two sisters, Edna Strandberg and Hazel Hays. Casketbearers are Derek Stern, Jarvis Groth, Jacob Scharpen, Gil Pangburn, Brian Davis and Cassie Anderson.
