Dyrol "Dyke" Jackson
Dyrol "Dyke" Jackson, age 75, of Welch, died on Thursday morning, August 14, 2008 at his home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2008 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch with Reverend Bob Albing officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery - Aspelund. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dyrol Keith Jackson was born October 19, 1932 in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, MN to Leighton and Frances (nee Solberg) Jackson. As an infant his family moved to Roseau, MN. He returned to the Wanamingo area in time for Dyke to start country school in the second grade. Dyke graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1950. He married Harriet Thompson on April 23, 1955 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Aspelund. They made their home in the Wanamingo area before moving to Welch in 1969. He worked construction with his father at Tri-Valley Construction, and later purchased it in 1977. He stayed active in the family business until his health started to fail. He also briefly managed Welch Village Ski Area. He was an active member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church where he taught Bible class. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, target shooting, knife throwing, biking, traveling and meeting his friends for coffee.
Dyke is survived by his wife, Harriet of Welch; his children, Renee (Keith) Johnson of Hager City, WI; Scott (Brenda) Jackson of Cannon Falls, Doug Jackson of Hastings, and Mitch (Lori) Jackson of Welch; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie (Ordean) Greseth of Wanamingo and Vonda Lee Kelly of Bloomington and one brother, Marc (Deb) Jackson of Oronoco. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Lucas Johnson, Tatam Jackson, Korie Jackson, Tanner Jackson, Elle Jackson, Sawyer Jackson, Rachel Jackson, and Taylor Jackson.
