Dwight L. Pierson, 84, passed away at The Bluffs in Lake City on June 1, 2020.
Dwight was born to Ernest & Lois (Miller) Pierson on July 18, 1935 in Mitchell, SD. He went to school in Mitchell and Madison, SD, graduating from Madison High School where he met the love of his life, Shirley Vander Goore. They were married on May 27, 1956. He studied at Dunwoody and the University of Minnesota. The marriage was blessed with 3 daughters. After several jobs in Minneapolis and Bloomington, he ended up working for IBM in Rochester for 25 years as a mechanical engineer. The Pierson’s spent 2 ½ years in Tokyo, which contributed to their love of travel as they used this opportunity to see several parts of Asia. After retiring from IBM, they moved to beautiful Lake City.
Dwight was a many faceted guy, being a long distance runner for about 40 years; he was the founder of the Rochester Track Club and completed 25 marathons and many other distance races. After retirement, he began woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture for the Pierson home and the homes of other relatives, and several items for the church. He liked to fish, bike, travel, keep a beautiful lawn, have coffee with the guys and do Sudoku. Dwight was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City and especially loved the Wednesday morning Bible study.
Dwight leaves behind his wife Shirley; his daughters, Linda Sepulveda of Vienna, Austria, Nancy (Bruce) Sundberg of Oak Grove, MN, Andrea (Mark) Dixon of Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren Michael (Anastasia) Noya of Vienna, Austria and Camilo (Mariel) Noya of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; great grandson, Samuel; two brothers, Gary (Gayle) Pierson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Merle (Judy) Pierson of Newport, VA.
