Duane David Thompson, 63, of Lake City, died Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at his home. He was born April 11, 1957, in Grand Rapids, to Darold and Ardyth (Johnson) Thompson. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1976 and shortly after enlisted in the US Navy, where he worked as an aviation electrician until he was honorably discharged. He returned to Grand Rapids and eventually moved to Red Wing in 1988. He worked at DBI and the Red Wing Shoe Company. He also took realtor courses, focusing on real estate property management, and started working as a loan officer until he moved to Lake City where he worked at Federal Mogul as a machinist. Growing up, he and his family enjoyed camping and his love for being outdoors grew with him--whether he was fishing, gardening or just being outside to enjoy the fresh air. He also loved animals, especially his pets.
He is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Thompson and Nicole Dahlstrom both of Red Wing; grandchildren, Eli, Jada, Nia and Olivia; great-grandson, Kai; 2 sisters, Pam (Delann Huppert) of Red Wing and Patricia Brink of Calumet, MN; a brother, John (Gail) Thompson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Allan Thompson and a sister, Joy Thompson.
