Duane Lawrence Rietmann, 81 of Rochester, died at home surrounded by family on May 18, 2013 after a courageous 17 year battle with congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester with Pastor, Dwight LaPine officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service with lunch at Calvary Baptist Church immediately following the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Duane was born on the family farm in Wabasha County on February 17, 1932. He attended Red Bridge Country School and graduated from Mazeppa High School. He joined the Army and served stateside during the Korean War. In 1956 he began his 29 year career with IBM.
Helen and Duane celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on April 9, 2010. Duane loved his 4 children and spent a lot of time attending sporting events, picnics, camping trips, and road trips. He enjoyed working on old cars and collected a few.
The family would like to give a special note of thanks to Jean Wagner, RN CNP and the team in the Thrombophilia area at the Mayo Clinic for the wonderful personal medical care that allowed the family to enjoy the last 17 years with Duane.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Nyberg), daughter Sandra, sons, Randy, and Dean; daughter in-laws Kara Marine-Rietmann and Rebecca (Loechler) Rietmann and grandson Matthew.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen, brother Daren, and son Rodney.
Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Research division, Calvary Baptist Church, and Seasons Hospice.
