Duane A. Koenig, age 89 of Oronoco passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home in Oronoco. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco with Pastor Benjamin Kempfert officiating. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Swanson - Owens VFW Post # 9647. Visitation will be on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Duane Arthur Koenig was born on December 25, 1926 on the family farm in Oronoco to Arthur and Freida (Ihrke) Koenig. Duane grew up on the family farm and attended Gravel Knoll, District 85, Country School. He started farming with his parents. On January 22, 1951, Duane married Delores I. Degener at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island. Duane entered the U.S. Army on February 16, 1951. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on February 7, 1953. They returned to the family farm and together they continued farming. Delores passed away on June 8, 2011 and Duane farmed until his death on the family farm. Duane served on the Oronoco Township Board and the Grace Lutheran Church Board of Trustees. Duane sold seed corn for many years. He was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church and Swanson - Owens VFW Post #9647 in Oronoco. In his earlier years, Duane loved to dance and more recently he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Duane is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Lee) Koenig-Butcher of Long Lake, MN and Lora (Jeff) Bertschinger of Pine Island; grandsons, Ryan (Sara) Bertschinger and Daniel Bertschinger all of Pine Island; brother, Allen (Anne) Koenig of Wabasha; sister, Lois Klindworth of Red Wing; sister-in-law, Laurel Cornish of Adephi, MD and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Delores and parents, Arthur and Freida.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church Music Fund.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
